If lost a Work Permit or is damaged, what to do?
Aliens who are going to work in Thailand must have a Work Permit. When knowing that the Work Permit is lost or damaged, it must be done by following the procedures of the Department of Employment. The Wonderful Package would like to recommend the information and procedures to request a replacement license.
The Work Permit is important for aliens working in Thailand because it is a document that specifies the term of work responsibility, period of work, and basic information of workers such as which company do you work for? What is your job description? Where are you staying?
If working without the Work Permit, it is illegal. Thus, when knowing that the Work Permit is lost or damaged, you must hurry to apply for a new work permit within 15 days from the date you know.
The supplements documents to request for Work Permit substitution are 2 cases as follows.
1. Lost a Work Permit

- Evidence of losing the Work Permit notification from the Police Station
- Three of 3x4 cms. Photograph. (Not more than 6 months)
- Passport or Permanent Resident Book and Alien Identification Card and a copy
- Copy of Work Permit (If any)
- Power of Attorney from Aliens with 10 Baht revenue stamp together with a copy and ID Card of Attorney (In case of the applicant did not submit by himself)
- Application fee 100 baht and Substitute license fee 150 baht
2. A Work Permit damaged

- A damaged Work Permit and a copy
- Three of 3x4 cms. Photograph. (Not more than 6 months)
- Power of Attorney from Aliens with 10 Baht revenue stamp together with a copy and ID Card of Attorney (In case of the applicant did not submit by himself)
- Application fee 100 baht and Substitute license fee 150 baht
The procedures
- Report the lost Work Permit at the local police station by specifying the lost Work Permit number in the notification form.
- Prepare supporting documents for submitting a request for a substitute license.
- Contact officials of the Department of Employment in your work area.
- When the officials check the details of the request are correct and have a notification of grievances, they will issue a substitute work permit.
Caution for Aliens working in Thailand :
- Must carry a Work Permit while working to show to the officials at any time (anyone who violates a penalty of not more than 10,000 baht).
- Must work as permitted only. If wanting to do other work, or change locality or the place of work, you must get permission first (anyone who violates a penalty of not more than 10,000 baht).
- Before the license expires, if you have to continue working, you have to apply for a license renewal first before work (anyone who violates an imprisonment penalty of not more than 3 months or a fine of not more than 5,000 baht).
- If your Work Permit lost or damaged, you have to apply for a substitute work permit within 15 days from the date you know (anyone who violates a penalty of not more than 500 baht).
- Aliens who have received an extended period of work under the law on investment promotion or other laws must notify the authorities within 30 days of receiving (anyone who violates a penalty of not more than 500 baht).
