The qualifications for those who want to buy/sell a motorcycle or a car
- Those who hold the "Non-Immigrant" visa such as Non-B visa, Non-O visa as Marriage, etc.
- If holding a Temporary Visa such as a Tourist visa, Postpone for 30-day, Postpone for 30-day, Postpone for 30-day cannot buy/sell a motorcycle or a car.
If a foreigner wants to buy a new car in cash, what should they do?
Documents to be prepared are as follows:
- Copy of Passport and original
- Copy of Non-Immigrant Visa such as Non-B visa
- A Work Permit or Certificate of Residence Permit by Immigration Bureau
- Certificate of Residence from the embassy which this part may require additional documents to request such as a Certificate of renting a house or condominium, a copy of a passport, or a copy of the visa.
- Vehicle Transfer Notification Form from the Department of Land Transport
After foreign buyers have followed the steps in buying a car, the Department of Land Transport will issue a temporary red number plate which will be replaced by a standard white permanent plate within 6 weeks. In addition, foreign buyers will receive a sticker confirming that you have paid taxes (vehicle tax).
If a foreigner wants to buy/sell a new car by installment (car finance), what should
they do?
The qualifications of those who want to buy cars with installments are as follows:
- The buyer must have a Work Permit to work in Thailand, or Certificate of Residence Permit by the Immigration Bureau, or a Certificate of Residence from the embassy
- Thai national guarantor
Documents to be prepared are as follows:
Foreigner documents
- Passport
- Visa
- A Work Permit to work in Thailand or Certificate of Residence Permit
- A copy of Book Bank from the bank in Thailand for the past 3-6 months
Thai guarantor's documents
- Copy of Identity Card
- Copy of House Registration Certificate
- A copy of Book Bank from the bank in Thailand for the past 3-6 months
- Income documents such as Salary Certificate

Documents to be prepared are as follows:
- Passport
- Non-Immigrant Visa
- A Work Permit to work in Thailand, or Certificate of Residence Permit by the Immigration Bureau, or a Certificate of Residence from the embassy
- Vehicle Transfer Notification Form from the Department of Land Transport
If foreigners want to buy/sell a used car, what should they do??
Normally, all motorbikes or used cars have registered with the Department of Land Transport. If foreigners want to buy it, they just replace the name of the seller with the name of the buyer. This can do it at the Department of Land Transport.
Documents to be prepared are as follows:
Seller documents
- Identity Card or Passport (foreign seller)
- House Registration Certificate or
- Car Registration Book
- Vehicle Transfer Notification Form from the Department of Land Transport
Buyer documents
- Passport
- Non-Immigrant Visa (foreign buyer)
- A Work Permit to work in Thailand, or Certificate of Residence Permit by the Immigration Bureau, or a Certificate of Residence from the embassy
* Be careful when buying a used car and make sure that the car has been borrowed and have the car paid in full.
**However, the seller is required to bring signatory documents to transfer a motorcycle or a car to you.
***If the seller can't come to see you in person, they must authorize a third party to act on their behalf.
