Consulting Service for Tourist Visa Extension

Extending a tourist visa (Tourist Visa / TR Visa) is applying for permission to continue staying in Thailand for tourism purposes. When extending a tourist visa, you may be granted an additional stay of up to 30 days from the original visa’s expiration date, but the total stay may not exceed 90 days from the date of entry. This extension is subject to the discretion of the Thai Immigration Office. The extension of a tourist visa will be considered based on the appropriateness of the request, and the conditions for extending the visa can vary depending on the nationality of the applicant and the type of visa initially granted.
As of July 15, 2024, the Immigration Office has announced an extension of the visa-free stay period for citizens of 93 countries to 60 days. This visa type, referred to as (ผผ.60), allows a 60-day stay in Thailand without requiring a visa. It can be extended once for an additional 30 days from the end of the initial 60-day period. For some nationalities, it may be necessary to obtain a confirmation letter from the respective embassy in Thailand to verify citizenship for the extension.

All extensions must comply with the regulations and conditions set by the Immigration Office.

What need to know for Tourist Visa Extension

  • If you wish to extend a tourist visa and have successfully done, but you also want to change the visa type. If so, the remaining validity of the current visa must be more than 16 days on the date of the application to change the visa type.
  • For those with Thai family members, you can apply to extend your visa to visit Thai family or spouse, which will grant you a 60-day stay from the end date of your current visa. You must provide proof of your relationship both legally and practically (e.g., marriage certificate, birth certificate).
  • For first-time visa applications, you will receive a single-entry visa valid for 3 months issued by the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country. This visa allows a stay of 60 days per entry, with the entry stamp provided by immigration officers upon arrival in Thailand.
  • For those entering Thailand on a visa-free entry, the first extension request will grant a visa extension of up to 1 month from the original visa’s expiration date. However, citizens from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Iran, Nigeria, Togo, Uganda, and Myanmar are eligible for only a 7-day extension. This extension is subject to the discretion of the Thai Immigration Office officials, and once granted, you cannot change the visa type and must exit Thailand.
  • Visa extension applications can be submitted at Immigration Offices in Bangkok or other provinces. If you overstay the permitted period, you will be fined 500 baht per day.
  • If an extension is denied, the Immigration Office will generally grant an additional 7 days for you to prepare to leave the country.
  • For those needing to leave Thailand for any reason, you must obtain a Re-Entry Permit from the nearest Immigration Office or international airport. Without a Re-Entry Permit (except for Multiple Entry Visas), your visa may be canceled.
  • Tourist Visa holders are not permitted to work in Thailand according to the law. If you wish to work, you must apply for a Work Visa (Non-B) and obtain a Work Permit. You must exit Thailand and re-enter before your visa expires to obtain these documents.
